Seoul, March 2025 – Soul Airline today announced updated regulations for passengers carrying portable power banks, in line with the latest directives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT). Effective immediately, these rules aim to enhance onboard safety by standardizing how power banks are handled, stored, and approved on all Soul Airline flights.
Key Highlights of the New Regulations
Security Screening
All portable power banks are subject to verification at check-in
and security checkpoints.
Only units within the approved capacity range (or with the required sticker) may proceed. Others will be confiscated for safety reasons.
Allowed Quantities
Under 100 Wh: Passengers may carry up to five units without pre-approval. Any number above five requires pre-approval at check-in.
100 Wh – 160 Wh: Passengers may carry up to two units, both requiring pre-approval and sticker labeling.
Above 160 Wh: Not permitted on board.
Short Circuit Protection
Each power bank must be protected against accidental short circuits—via socket covers, covering the socket, or placing it in an individual plastic bag.
A sticker is issued at check-in upon verifying proper short circuit protection. Units lacking protection or stickers will not be allowed through security.
On-Board Storage and Usage
Portable power banks must be carried in the cabin; checked baggage is strictly prohibited.
Storage on board is limited to on your person or in the seat literature pocket—not in overhead bins.
Charging power banks on board is prohibited; if a device overheats or expands, passengers must immediately alert the cabin crew.
